Ruben Lima

About

Ruben Lima is a color blind creative and painter from Chicago, Illinois. His painting practice pulls inspiration from abstract expressionism and his life experience.

Lima was born in New York City, and moved to a small, unknown part of the midwest at an early age. He lived in that area until his mid-twenties, where he then moved to Chicago.

Throughout his life, he has always been inspired by art. From being pushed in a stroller around the MoMa, to having a florist of 15 years as a mother, Lima's life has always exuded art. Fashion, tattoos, photography, graphic design, are among the few categories Lima has pursued, both creatively and professionally.

Taking inspiration in growing older and the rural isolation he grew up in, Lima conveys his thoughts and emotion through painting. Due to his color blindness, most of his pieces are monochromatic, while color is used to compliment faint embodiments of ideas and representations.

His figurations similarly coincide with the emotional experience of others, hoping to connect on a personal level of dream-like familiarity within observers.
